Southwest Expands Flights to Cover Entire Bay Area from STL

New Non-Stops to San Jose and Sacramento Will Begin Spring 2018

(August 28, 2017- St. Louis) Southwest Airlines is expanding its non-stop network from St. Louis Lambert International Airport (STL) to cover the entire San Francisco Bay Area with the announcement of new non-stop service to San Jose, CA (SJC) and Sacramento, CA (SMF). It expands on service that STL already has into San Francisco, CA (SFO) and Oakland, CA (OAK).

Southwest will fly to each of these two northern California destinations with one daily flight beginning April 8, 2018. Southwest will be the first STL carrier to fly these routes. Tickets are available now on www.southwest.com.

“Northern California is a key market for St. Louis. Both San Jose and Sacramento were at the top of our list of destinations we were targeting because of the demand, both from leisure and business travelers,” said Rhonda Hamm-Niebruegge, STL Airport Director.

The two new destinations will increase Southwest’s non-stop service to 45 markets in April. Southwest will begin Cancun service in November of this year. This summer, Southwest expanded in Terminal 2 with the addition of three new gates – E34, E36 and E38.

Southwest has the largest operations at STL with 57 percent of passenger activity so far in 2017. Southwest’s passenger enplanements through July are up 12 percent. Overall, St. Louis Lambert Airport has seen 23 straight months of passenger enplanement growth with the July statistics showing an increase of seven percent (690,233 vs. 644,166). For year-to-date, STL is up six percent in passenger enplanements or 4.3 million passengers vs. 4.0 million passengers through July.
