The fiscal year 2019 budget planning process is in full swing with the budget being reviewed and dissected by the Board of Aldermen.
Since the beginning of May, the Ways and Means Committee of the Board of Aldermen has been conducting public hearings on each segment of the proposed budget prior to taking any action. On Monday, June 4, the committee will take all proposed budgets into consideration and vote to reduce or keep the amount of any item in the budget bill, except amounts fixed by statute or ordinance obligations.
The proposed fiscal year 2019 budget has a shortfall of approximately $10M, which is being made up by various cuts throughout. Once the Board of Aldermen approves the budget, it goes back to the Board of Estimate & Apportionment. The budget must be passed by June 30.
