Biography

Matt Devoti is the 5th Ward Alderman.  The ward consists of four neighborhoods: the Hill, Southwest Garden, North Hampton, and Southampton.  Matt was elected Alderman in April 2025.

Before his election, Matt served as a Director of the Hill Neighborhood Association.  Matt chaired the Association’s Safety & Security Committee during his two terms on the Board.  During that time, the Committee created initiatives educating residents about being good neighbors, resolving disputes, and responding to crime.  Matt worked with the neighborhood’s block captain program and helped arrange community programs ranging from the provision of basic first aid to featuring local court personnel and investigating crime in the community.

Matt is a lawyer and partner in the law firm of Casey, Devoti & Brockland.  He practices in the areas of personal injury, medical and professional negligence, insurance policy disputes, product liability and Workers’ Compensation.  Matt has tried nearly 60 cases in state and federal court and before the Division of Workers’ Compensation and argued cases before the Missouri Supreme Court and Missouri Court of Appeals.  Matt was also previously elected by his peers to serve on the 22nd Circuit Judicial Commission.

Matt earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Westminster College and his Juris Doctorate from St. Louis University.

In the recent past, Matt served on the Board of St. Martha’s Hall, a shelter that serves the victims of domestic violence, and the Gateway Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.  He is now Co-Chair of the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys’ Emergency Response Team.

Matt has five children.  He and his wife Lauren live in the Hill neighborhood
