Comptroller Baringer Requests Civil Service Commission Investigate Payroll Checks
Statement from Comptroller Baringer regarding her request to the Civil Service Commission to investigate the issuance of payroll checks
Recent reports regarding payroll checks issued to the former Comptroller after her departure from office raise serious questions that demand immediate review. My office has reviewed this matter and related communications. Several City departments and entities have roles in this matter. Given those facts and the reality that this matter involves the former Comptroller individually – an individual whom I ran against earlier this year in a heavily contested election – others should lead the work to learn more about what has taken place and review the appropriateness of the actions taken by all those involved
Accordingly, I am requesting the Civil Service Commission conduct a formal investigation into these disbursements to determine whether they were properly authorized, lawful, and in compliance with City policies. The public deserves full transparency and accountability regarding how taxpayer dollars are managed, and this review will ensure those standards are upheld.
My office is committed to cooperating in any way necessary with the investigation. I look forward to a detailed report of findings and any recommended corrective measures within 30 days. Maintaining the integrity of our financial systems is essential to preserving public trust in City government.
