Mayor Lyda Krewson has appointed Howard Hayes as Executive Director of the St. Louis Agency on Training and Employment (SLATE). Hayes is a graduate of Webster University where he received a Master of Business Administration.

He has more than 15 years of executive experience creating new jobs through access to training and capital. Most recently, Hayes was the Vice President of Diversity and Inclusion at the PARIC corporation where he supported small, local, minority-owned and women-owned companies seeking to do business with PARIC. Hayes’s appointment is effective August 1.

He replaces Stephen Conway, chief of staff to the mayor, who has been overseeing business operations at SLATE. SLATE supports both St. Louis businesses and job seekers. SLATE prepares job seekers with the skills needed to match current available jobs, as well as preparing job seekers with skills necessary for future workforce needs.

Its mission is to develop and supply a quality workforce that meets the economic and labor market needs of the St. Louis region. “Howard has years of experience advocating for local minority and women-owned businesses,” Mayor Lyda Krewson said. “His professional experience and leadership ability will be a great asset as part of SLATE’s mission of providing the type of job training skills necessary for our residents to participate fully in the workforce of the future.”

Prior to his work at the PARIC corporation, Hayes worked at St. Louis Development Corporation for more than seven years as the Director of Minority Business Development and Compliance.

There he promoted inclusion and workforce goals on large-scale projects, including Ballpark Village, Cortex Innovation Community, Union Station, and Scottrade Center.

Hayes has also served as an adjunct faculty member teaching entrepreneurship at Harris Stowe State University - the Anheuser-Busch School of Business.
