Rick Skinner of the United Way of Greater St. Louis is inviting everyone to consider volunteering for a project during National Volunteer Week, which will be observed from April 15 - 21, 2012. Community service projects will take place throughout the St. Louis area and will vary in length of time to complete.

If there is a project on your block or in your neighborhood, for example, starting/tending a neighborhood garden or picking up trash, please consider inviting a few of your friends, neighbors, co-workers or members of your church or neighborhood association to join you in the beautification effort.

Since it was established in 1974, National Volunteer Week has provided an opportunity for individuals and organizations to discover and actively demonstrate their collective power to foster positive transformation. This is the perfect opportunity to join others around the country during this week and work toward improving your block and our great city.

If you have questions or would like to volunteer, please feel free to contact Skinner at (314) 539-4284. You may also visit the United Way web site at http://www.stl.unitedway.org
