Mayor Francis G. Slay presents proclamation for Diaper Need Awareness Week

Mayor Francis G. Slay presents a proclamation to representatives from the St. Louis Area Diaper Bank in honor of "Diaper Need Awareness Week" which began Monday, September 28, 2015.

The goal of this national effort is to increase awareness about the psychological risks to mothers who cannot afford disposable diapers and the health and developmental risks to their babies who may have to wear dirty diapers longer than they should.

According to studies that have been conducted, diaper need is a bigger stress to mothers than food insecurity.  It can lead to maternal depression and poor social and developmental outcomes for the child.
