2015 Fireworks Safety Tips

The safest way to enjoy fireworks is to attend a public display conducted by trained professionals.

Did you know that on July 4th more fires are reported than any other day and fireworks account for more than half of them? 

Did you know that each July 4th, thousands of people, most often kids and teens, are injured while using consumer fireworks?

According to the latest data from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, injuries from fireworks accounted for 11,400 visits to emergency rooms in 2013.  The data also showed that 16 percent of fireworks-related injuries were to the eyes.

In a news release issued by Prevent Blindness, Sherill Williams, president and CEO of Prevent Blindness, Ohio Affiliate said, "Nearly half of all injuries are suffered by innocent bystanders who chose not to use fireworks, but are paying the price of the risky behavior of others, many times complete strangers."

  • Leave fireworks to the professionals
  • Take necessary precautions
  • Be prepared for an accident or injury
  • Always have a bucket of water and/or fire extinguisher nearby
  • Keep a close eye on children at events where fireworks are used.
