ST. LOUIS PUBLIC LIBRARY CELEBRATES THIRD ANNUAL HIP HOP APPRECIATION WEEK

The St. Louis Public Library is proud to host programs throughout the week of May 16-21 in celebration of its Third Annual Hip Hop Appreciation Week.  All events will be held at Central Library, 1301 Olive Street, and are FREE and open to the public.

Hip-Hop Appreciation Week celebrates the history and culture of the art form.

This year, the Library's Hip-Hop Appreciation Week programming includes:

Hip Hop Appreciation Week Pre-Programs (For Teens Only):

·Beatmaking & Music Production Workshop
May 4

6-7:30 p.m., Creative Experience

Alonzo "Zo" Lee is a two-time Grammy Award-winning producer, songwriter and engineer of The Trak Starz, a St. Louis-based production group. Lee also teaches at ex'treme Institute by Nelly. This workshop will be the first of two that will prepare teens for the May 18 Hip Hop Hooray: Open Mic program.

·Songwriting Workshop May 11       
4-5:30 p.m., Creative Experience

Christine Stern has published music with several companies and artists, including Grammy Award-winner Thi'sl. She also teaches at the ex'treme Institute by Nelly. This workshop will be the second of two that will prepare teens for the May 18 Hip Hop Hooray: Open Mic program.  Beatmaking & Music Production Workshop attendance not required to attend Songwriting Workshop.

Alonzo "Zo" Lee gives keynote address. Lee is a two-time Grammy Award-winning producer, songwriter and engineer of The Trak Starz, a St. Louis-based production group. He will discuss the state of Hip Hop in St. Louis.

12-1 p.m., Creative Experience

Lunch Beat St. Louis featuring Nappy DJ Needles is back again for a special Hip Hop lunchtime dance party. Buy lunch on site at Urban Eats Café Central or bring one.

Tupac: Resurrection, an Academy Award-nominated documentary which consists of interviews, home video footage and rare songs from Tupac's life.

Juice, a 1992 film starring Tupac, tells the story of four young men growing up in Harlem and their everyday struggles.
