The St. Louis Public Library's Authors @ Your Library series for December focuses on recovery and resilience.
Margaret Crane and Barbara Ballinger discuss their book "Suddenly Single After 50: The Girlfriend's Guide to Navigating Loss, Restoring Hope, and Rebuilding Your Life" on December 1 from 6-8 p.m. at Schlafly, 225 North Euclid, Ave.
A stressful, bitter divorce. A prolonged, painful death of a beloved husband. And suddenly, after age 50, you're on your own again. Being suddenly single after age 50 can be terrifying, but it can also be liberating.
Ballinger is an award-winning wordsmith. Her latest books are "The Kitchen Bible," which she co-authored with Crane, and "The Garden Bible," co-authored with landscape designer Michael Gassman.
Crane is a nationally-known freelance writer focusing on business, food, wine, fashion and home furnishings.

The "Proud to Be" Anthology Launch will be on December 4 from 2-4 p.m. at Central's Auditorium, 1301 Olive Street.
"Proud to Be: Writing By American Warriors" is a creative writing anthology of poetry, fiction, essays, interviews and photos submissions by and about veterans. This annual series, first released in November 2012, preserves and shares military service perspectives of our soldiers, veterans and of their families.
The anthology series is funded by the Missouri Humanities Council, edited by Dr. Susan Swartwout and published by Southeast Missouri State University Press.
Local military personnel and family will give readings. Light refreshments will be served.
