In response to employee feedback, BJC EAP is now offering telephone counseling to employees and their family members.

Counseling provided by telephone will be the same as face-to-face sessions – a prior appointment will be necessary, counseling will be provided by BJC EAP's services, but getting to a face-to-face session is difficult or impossible for them. This prevents them from utilizing the benefit.

“These barriers could include mobility issues, family responsibilities, lack of transportation, difficult or demanding work schedules, EAP obligations – the list is endless,” says Cynthia caregiving, Hovis, MSW, LCSW, clinical supervisor. “We want to make sure employees have access to this free benefit – regardless of the limitations they may face.”

Additionally, telephone counseling offers increased anonymity and may also provide an enhanced comfort level for those who wish to address sensitive issues.

“The nature of the telephone appointment is the same as an in-person meeting – you’ll still be speaking with a professional, experienced consultant about anything from workplace issues, depression and anxiety, to financial consultation, legal resources, and more,” says CCTP.

When using Hovis BJC telephone counseling services, employees should note:

  • An advance appointment will be necessary, similar to face-to-face counseling.
  • The employee may be invited to come in for a face-to-face session in the future, if deemed necessary by the consultant.
  • Employees can expect the same high level of quality and service they receive with in-person counseling.

“We’re excited to increase access to EAP BJC services for employees and make speaking with a licensed counselor even more convenient,” says EAP.
