This article is 12 years old. It was published on June 1, 2012.

Late last month, Early Adopters made the migration from the City's old email system to Google Apps for Government.

The transition has been smooth.  Every email (received and sent) in the individual's Groupwise mailbox and folder were found in their new Gmail account.  Early Adopters found all of their contacts, frequent contacts and the entire City directory available in their contact lists.  All calendar items appeared in the new calendar.  All emails sent to the old are being forwarded automatically to the new email address:  Note:  the old email address will be kept alive for the foreseeable future, so there's no need to print any new business cards or stationery until needed.

Please feel free to explore the new website at to help you when it's time for you to make the switch.  And be sure to try this site with your new Chrome browser.

Many of you who use Google and Gmail at home know how powerful a tool this can be.  Google Apps for Government gives you so much more.  In one easy-to-use system, you can control your email, calendar and contacts.  You can work more collaboratively by sharing documents, creating web sites and through chat.

For now, watch for emails keeping you informed about the move.  If you tweet, follow @STL_ITSA on Twitter.  If you are new to Gmail, you'll want to visit the YouTube and website links on the above mentioned website. You may also want to attend one of the many trainings that will be offered over the next few months.  In the meantime, if you have any questions or comments, send a message to

Your patience and support are greatly appreciated during this transition period.
