Cindy Riordan (c) Tony Meyers, Jr. and employees from Laclede Gas receive APWA Award for the Laclede Gas IMap System

The St. Louis Branch of Missouri Chapter APWA Award Committee selected the Laclede Gas IMap System to receive the Management Innovation Award for 2015.  The award was presented at the annual APWA luncheon on June 25, 2015, to a team consisting of Larry Vlaich and Brad Craddick from Laclede Gas, Tony Meyers, Jr. from the City's Planning and Urban Design Agency (PDA) (second from right), and Cindy Riordan from the City's Street Department.

The project enhances the Laclede Gas IMap System by adding a map layer which displays to Laclede Gas project managers and field crews the location of upcoming special events in the City of St. Louis.  The special event map layer is created by the Street Department as part of their process in issuing street permits to event organizers.  PDA bundles that information into a GIS map service which Laclede can then pull into their system.  The layer captures the particular blocks that will be closed, the date/time of the closure and the contact information of the event organizer.  Knowing this information allows Laclede Gas managers to schedule work in the right of way around the event schedule.  Prior to having this communication between agencies, it was not uncommon for Laclede Gas crews to excavate in a street, unaware that a bike race, run or other event was scheduled to come down that street the very next day.
