ST. LOUIS – Drivers heading from south St. Louis into Illinois on eastbound I-64 across the Mississippi River on the Poplar Street Bridge should consider alternate routes through February.

Crews will close the ramp from eastbound I-44/northbound I-55 to eastbound I-64 – the Poplar Street Bridge—at 9 p.m. Friday, September 8. The ramp will remain closed around the clock through February.

Crews are closing the ramp to rebuild and widen it as part of ongoing work to the Poplar Street Bridge Project. While the ramp is closed, the two right lanes on the eastbound Poplar Street Bridge from the ramp into Illinois will also be closed so crews can place a new driving surface on them. Two lanes will remain open on eastbound I-64 from 6th Street to Illinois Route 3.

The ramp from eastbound I-44/northbound I-55 to Walnut Street will remain open during this work.

The detour for the ramp closure is to take eastbound I-44 to exit 293 (Madison), turn right on Tyler or Madison to Broadway, turn right on Broadway, turn right on Cass and turn onto the ramp for eastbound I-70 across the Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge.

From downtown, drivers can use the 6th Street ramp to get onto eastbound I-64. They can also use I-255 to the south, I-270 to the north or take Tucker to the Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge.
