Marquette Park

Placed into ordinance in 1915, the park was named after Pere Marquette:

Father Jacques Marquette S.J. (June 1, 1637 – May 18, 1675), sometimes known as Père Marquette or James Marquette, was a French Jesuit missionary who founded Michigan's first European settlement, Sault Ste. Marie, and later founded St. Ignace, Michigan. In 1673 Father Marquette and Louis Jolliet were the first Europeans to explore and map the northern portion of the Mississippi River.

The park is located in the Dutchtown Neighborhood, bordered by Osage Street to the north, Gasconade Street to the south, Louisiana Avenue to the west and Minnesota Avenue to the east. South Compton Avenue goes right through the park and divides it into two.

The park is unique in that it has functioning swimming pools.
