Change Your Clock, Change Your Battery
Daylight-saving time ends at 2 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 6
This article is 14 years old. It was published on November 1, 2011.
Firefighters from the St. Louis Fire Department will be in the community on Saturday, Nov. 5 and Sunday, Nov. 6 reminding residents that when they change their clocks back to standard Central time they need to also change their smoke alarm batteries. Firefighters will also be distributing free batteries provided by Energizer on both days from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. (or while supplies last).
The Change Your Clock, Change Your Battery program was started 24 years ago by Energizer and the International Association of Fire Chiefs. Today, fire departments from across the country promote this life-saving practice.
Last month, St. Louis Firefighters went door-to-door installing approximately 2,160 smoke alarms through its Smoke Alarm Program established in 1984. The program is funded almost entirely by donations and a grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Any city resident in need of a smoke alarm can contact the St. Louis Fire Department HQ, Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. at (314) 533-3406.
