Soldiers' Memorial Hosts Historic 9/11 Flag
Fire Chief Dennis Jenkerson Invited to Put a Stitch into Sept. 11 Flag
This article is 15 years old. It was published on December 1, 2010.
St. Louis Fire Chief Dennis Jenkerson puts a stitch in the National 9/11 Flag that was on display at Soldiers' Memorial Military Museum on Veterans Day.
The flag was destroyed in the collapse of the World Trade Center on September 11, but the goal is to restore it to its original 13-stripe format and when completed it will become a part of the permanent collection of the National September 11 Memorial Museum being built at the World Trade Center.
The flag is on a journey across America through the Tenth Year Anniversary of 9/11 and is being displayed at leading venues nationwide where local service heroes are afforded the privilege of placing a stitch or two into the flag.
Participants at Soldiers' Memorial placed an actual stitch from a United States Flag from the State of Missouri that would have otherwise been destined for retirement, into the National 9/11 Flag.
