Our region's first bicycle commuter station opened last week in Downtown St. Louis.  Bicyclists now have a place to park their bikes, to shower, and to have a locker.

Mayor Francis G. Slay was on hand for the opening ceremony.  "I've heard so many people say that they would consider riding a bicycle to work if they had a place to shower.  Now there is a place," Slay said.  "I've heard complaints that there isn't a good place to store their bicycles.  Now there is a place."

The new Bicycle Station has more than 100 bike racks and 70 lockers.  It also has five showers and key-coded separate facilities for men and women.

Memberships are $20 a month or $150 a year.  For all the details, visit the website at http://www.downtownbicyclestation.com .
