ST. LOUIS -- The City of St. Louis Civil Rights Enforcement Agency (CREA) hosts the Expanding Opportunities and Creating Equity Conference February 5-6, 2016, at Saint Louis University School of Law.
The two-day conference brings together nationally-renowned experts in addressing the challenges and opportunities for implementing HUD's new "Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing" final rule, which clarifies and simplifies fair housing obligations.
The goal of the conference is to equip communities that receive federal funding with the data and tools needed to help them meet long standing fair housing obligations with the use of those funds. That includes sharing with anyone involved in development the best practices to build up environments in which people can live where there are opportunities for success. For example, the City, banks and financial institutions, real estate developers, as well as nonprofits and community development corporations all play a role in implementing a community's fair housing strategy.
St. Louis County, St. Charles, St. Peters, Ferguson and other municipalities that receive federal block grant funding are invited to attend.
Gustavo F. Velasquez, HUD's Assistant Secretary for Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity will provide Friday's keynote presentation, entitled What is Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing?
