Forest Park
Overview and amenities for Forest Park
NOTICE: After the May 16, 2025 tornado, the City is asking residents to steer clear of Forest Park while crews work to repair damage in the area. Thank you.
Forest Park, officially opened to the public on June 24, 1876, is one of the largest urban parks in the United States. At around 1,300 acres, it is bigger than Central Park in New York.
Forest Park offers something for everyone — amazing destinations and institutions that challenge the mind, a Dual Path system that invites both leisurely walks and intense workouts, quiet places to picnic and read, and a variety of popular festivals and events — all set in a city oasis, a place to escape it all.
- The archived History of Forest Park provides background on the creation of the park, the World's Fair and the history of the buildings in the park.
- The Institutions in Forest Park include the boathouse, museums, golf courses, tennis courts, and other amenities.
- The Forest Park Advisory Board reviews Park improvement projects and monitors compliance with the Master Plan for all major park projects.
