Nature of Work

Incumbents in this position are responsible for studying traffic patterns and volume, designing traffic control systems and programs and maintaining traffic control devices. Duties include coordinating bicycle and pedestrian projects such as: planning and projecting for conformity with bike and pedestrian design standards; serving as primary point of contact for bike and pedestrian related grants, awards and the Bike Share Program and implementing bike lanes, shared lane markings, signage, bike racks, bike corrals and better crosswalks and pedestrian signals.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Transportation Planning, Traffic or Civil Engineering, or a directly related field from a nationally accredited college or university approved by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); plus two years of professional traffic engineering experience.

Registration: Registration as a Professional Engineer or Architect in the State of Missouri or registration in another state with eligibility for reciprocity in Missouri.

License: Must possess and maintain a valid Missouri driver’s license while employed by the City of St. Louis. Please note type of license, number, class, and expiration date on the Employment Application. Applicants who do not possess a Missouri driver’s license must present a “Driving Record Check” from their State’s Department of Motor Vehicles.

Documentation of academic credentials and professional registration must be submitted with the Employment Application or at the time of the Oral Interview.
