Nature of Work

Incumbents in this position receive and evaluate telephone calls for emergency medical assistance and dispatch appropriate emergency response personnel. Incumbents are also responsible for making assignments to dispatchers and monitoring and training dispatchers.  Work involves shift, holiday, weekend and overtime assignments.

Minimum Qualifications

A high school diploma or General Educational Development (G.E.D.) certificate. 

Two years of experience as an Emergency Medical Dispatcher AND a current Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) Certification issued by the National Academies of Emergency Medical Dispatch. EMS Lead Dispatchers must maintain their EMD Certification while employed by the City of St. Louis.

OR, an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Proof of current EMD Certification must be provided at the time of the Oral Interview.

A limited number of applicants may be scheduled for the Oral Interview based on an evaluation of their qualifying experience and training. Applicants will only receive credit for their experience, education, and training related to this position as described on their application for employment. Please be as specific as possible when describing your qualifying Emergency Medical Dispatcher experience. The Employment History and Educational/Training History sections of the application must be completed even if you attach a resume.  Include reasons for changes in employers and explain any gaps in employment.  Incomplete and/or carelessly completed applications will not be considered.

VETERAN'S PREFERANCE POINTS: To be eligible for veteran's preference points, the applicant must submit a copy of his/her DD 214 Certificate of Release or discharge from Active Duty with the Employment Application or at the time of the Oral Interview.  The Director of Personnel may, in his discretion, accept alternate documentation.

No waiver of the Residency Requirement will be granted.
