Nature of Work

Incumbents in this position are responsible for sorting, picking up and delivering mail and parcels to City offices.  Other duties include performing simple clerical tasks and operating postage metering machines and other mail processing equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of filing application.  Must be able to read, write legibly, perform basic mathematical calculations and understand oral and written instructions.  Must be able to lift. 50 lbs, walk indoor and outside mail routes in all types of weather while carrying a mailbag and safely operate an automobile and van.

License:  Must possess and maintain a valid Missouri driver's license while employed by the City of St. Louis.  Must possess a valid driver's license at the time of filing the Employment Application.  Please note type of license, number, class and expiration date on the Employment Application.  At the time of the Written Test, applicants who do not possess a Missouri driver's license will be required to submit a "Driving Record Check" from their State's Department of Motor Vehicles.

Complete the Employment Application even if you submit a resume.  Resumes will not be accepted as a substitute to a fully completed application.  When completing the Employment History section of the application, include reasons for changes in employers and explain any gaps in employment.  Incomplete and/or carelessly completed applications will not be considered.

MEDICAL:  Candidates will be required to pass a "Drug Screen" as part of their medical examination.

VETERAN'S PREFERENCE POINTS:  To be eligible for veteran's preference points, the applicant must submit a copy of his/her DD 214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty with the Employment Application or at the time of the Written Test.  The Director of Personnel may, in his discretion, accept alternate documentation.
