BI-WEEKLY PAY RATE: $1,020 

Nature of Work

Incumbents in this trainee position perform manual labor and operate aerial lift trucks and tree maintenance equipment to remove and maintain trees and shrubs on City property.  Duties include performing tree trimming/removal work at varying heights with chain saws and related equipment and operating aerial lift trucks and chippers in the disposal of tree debris.  Candidates must be available for 24-hour snow call, emergency windstorm call and overtime.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of filing application.  Must have the skills and abilities to climb trees and work at varying heights.

License:  Must possess a valid driver's license at the time of filing application and be able to present it at the Oral Interview.  Candidates that do not have a Missouri driver’s license will be required to present a “Driving Record Check” from their State’s Department of Motor Vehicles.  Incumbents must possess and maintain a valid Missouri Commercial Driver’s License (Class A or B) while employed by the City of St. Louis.  Candidates that do not have a Missouri Commercial Driver’s License (Class A or B) at the time of hire must obtain said license as a condition of successfully completing their working test period.  Please note type of license, number, class, expiration date and State where issued on application.

 A limited number of applicants may be scheduled for the Oral Interview based on an evaluation of their qualifying education, training and experience as listed on the Employment Application.  Complete the Employment History and Educational/Training History sections of the Employment Application even if you submit a resume.  Resumes will not be accepted as a substitute to a fully completed application.  When completing the Employment History section of the application, include reasons for changes in employers and explain any gaps in employment.  Incomplete and/or carelessly completed applications will not be considered.

MEDICAL: The pre-employment medical exam will include a drug screen and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing will be conducted in accordance with D.O.T. regulations.

VETERANS PREFERENCE POINTS:  To be eligible for veterans preference points, the applicant must submit a copy of his/her DD 214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty with the Employment Application or at the time of the Oral Interview.  The Director of Personnel may, in his discretion, accept alternate documentation.
