Nature of Work
Incumbent in this position reports to the Planning and Urban Design Agency Director and is responsible for managing and administering architectural and urban design review and preservation for the Cultural Resources Office. The Office is responsible for the following: designation of historic districts and landmarks, providing regulation of construction, alteration and demolition in historic districts and of landmarks; providing design review of construction in certain public places and of public property, and for staffing the Preservation Board.

A Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Urban Design, Historic Preservation, or a related field; plus five years of professional experience in historic/architectural preservation, urban design, or a related field that includes at least two years in a management capacity. OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Documentation of academic credentials must be submitted upon request.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Extensive knowledge of the historic preservation field and ability to understand and communicate position on complex preservation issues, including community development, planning, neighborhood/downtown revitalization, business and/or real estate development.
