Nature of Work
Incumbents in this position are responsible for performing advanced legal work in the City Counselor’s Office handling complex litigation matters at the trial and appellate levels in both state and federal courts. Duties include preparing for trials before judges and juries, conducting discovery, arguing motions and participating in all phases of said trials; researching and preparing appellate briefs and arguing appeals at all appellate levels in both state and federal courts; and providing legal advice and opinions to City departments.

Graduation from a school of law approved by the American Bar Association; current membership in the Missouri Bar in good standing or licensure in another state with eligibility for reciprocity in Missouri; plus four years of legal practice in the area of civil litigation.
