The City of Saint Louis Department of Public Safety announces Ed Ware as the New Building Commissioner

With nearly 40 years of experience in building and codes, Mr. Ware is set to lead the approximately 200-person division toward new heights.

The City of Saint Louis is proud to announce the appointment of Ed Ware as the new Building Commissioner, effective immediately. With nearly 40 years of experience in building and codes, Mr. Ware is set to lead the approximately 200-person division toward new heights.

The announcement was made by Public Safety Director Charles E. Coyle, Sr., to the building division staff at 9:00 am on Monday, March 25th, 2024. Director Coyle expressed his confidence in Mr. Ware’s ability to steer the division forward, stating, “This is a pivotal moment for the building division. With Mr. Ware's leadership and vision, the building division will continue on the right path forward.”

Ed Ware expressed humility and enthusiasm upon his appointment, emphasizing his commitment to integrity, efficiency, and community trust as foundational principles for his leadership approach. “I was surprised and humbled by the announcement and at the same time also excited about the challenges that lie ahead,” said Mr. Ware. He outlined his goals for the division, highlighting the importance of honesty, transparency, and trust in dealings with citizens, colleagues, and neighborhood communities. “One of my main goals for the Building Division is to push and nurture integrity inside the department...Through effective enforcement of the various Building Codes and also synchronizing our collaborations with other city departments along with building and achieving community trust, the results will be a healthier, safer city for those who live here and also for those that visit our city.”

During the month-long process of filling the Commissioner's vacancy, Deputy Building Commissioner Dylan Mosier served as the division's primary point of contact. Director Coyle thanked Mr. Mosier for his dedication and leadership during this time, saying, “I want to thank Mr. Mosier for his ability to step up and assist with the needs of the building division during this transition period.”

The Department of Public Safety looks forward to Mr. Ware’s contributions and is confident that, under his leadership, the Building Division will continue to excel and effectively serve the community.
