City residency requirement may be waived for this position.
Incumbents who meet the minimum experience and training requirements will start at $46,280 annually. Journeyman who have completed an apprenticeship program registered by the Department of Labor or equivalent will start at $50,622 annually. Proof of completion of a registered Department of Labor Apprenticeship Program and Journeyman status must be submitted at the time of filing the Employment Application or at the time of the Written Test.
This position is selected for the Hiring Incentive Program. The incentive shall be in the amount of one thousand five hundred dollars ($1500.00). The hiring incentive will be paid (if funds are available) by the Department/Division which appoints the applicant.
Nature of Work
Incumbents in this position are responsible for installing, repairing and maintaining electrical system components, fixtures and lines.

An Associate's degree program in electricity from a recognized trade school, technical or military school, college or university; OR two years of experience as a Trades Helper (electrical - assisting journeyman electricians) in the City Service AND graduation from a two-year certificate program in electricity from a recognized technical or trade school; OR licensure by the City of St. Louis as an electrician; OR three years of experience as a Trades Helper (electrical - assisting journeymen electricians) in the City Service AND successful completion of two courses in basic electricity from one of the recognized programs above. Vocational training programs must be beyond the high school level.
Proof of educational achievement/training must be submitted with the Employment Application or at the time of the Written Test.
License: Must possess and maintain a valid Missouri driver’s license while employed by the City of St. Louis. Must possess a valid driver's license at the time of filing application and be able to present it at the Written Test. Please note type of license, number, class and expiration date on the Employment Application. Applicants without a Missouri driver's license must present a "Driving Record Check" from their State's Department of Motor Vehicles.
A limited number of applicants may be scheduled for the Written Test based on an evaluation of their qualifying education, training and experience as listed on the Employment Application. Include reasons for changes in employers and explain any gaps in employment. Incomplete and/or carelessly completed applications will not be considered. Resumes will not be accepted as a substitute to a fully completed application.
MEDICAL: Candidates will be required to pass a "Drug Screen" as part of the medical examination.
VETERAN'S PREFERENCE POINTS: To be eligible for veteran's preference points, the applicant must submit a copy of his/her DD 214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty with the Employment Application or at the time of the Written Test. The Director of Personnel may, in his discretion, accept alternate documentation.
