  • Minimum: $43,056.00
  • Maximum: $62,426.00

Applicants who meet the minimum experience and training requirements will start at $43,056 annually.  Applicants who have successfully completed a bona fide apprenticeship program registered with the Department of Labor and obtained journeyman status will start at $48,594 annually. Proof of successful completion of a bona fide apprenticeship program registered with the Department of Labor and journeyman status must be submitted upon request of the Department of Personnel.

Position Specifications

Incumbents in this position perform mechanical maintenance duties that include maintaining equipment and systems for heating, ventilating, air conditioning and plumbing.  Examples of duties include performing preventative maintenance to equipment; installing equipment such as boilers, air handlers, exhaust fans, plumbing fixtures, motors, pumps, filter tanks, radiators, chillers, compressors, valves, piping, fittings and sewer systems and performing routine electrical repairs.

Minimum Qualifications

Three years of experience installing, repairing, and maintaining high and low pressure steam boilers and pumping systems, air handling equipment or other related mechanical equipment. Completion of a skilled trades training program in HVAC or plumbing may substitute for two years of the required experience.  OR, an equivalent combination of  training and experience.

License:  Must possess and maintain a valid Missouri driver's license while employed by the City of St. Louis.  Must possess a valid driver's license at the time of filing application and be able to present it upon request.  Please note type of license, number, class and expiration date on the Employment Application. 

Documentation of academic credentials and/or proof of completion of a bona fide apprenticeship program registered with the Department of Labor and journeyman status (if applicable) must be submitted upon request.

When completing the Employment History and the Educational/Training History sections of the Employment Application, please be as thorough as possible when describing your education, training and experience relating to this position. Your employment experience and training will be used to determine whether you meet the entrance requirements for this position and to compute your experience and training evaluation. Applicants will only receive credit for their experience, training and education as shown on the application. Include reasons for changes in employers and explain any gaps in employment.

MEDICAL:  Candidates will be required to pass an oral swab "Drug Screen" as part of the Medical examination.

VETERAN'S PREFERENCE POINTS:  To be eligible for veteran's preference points, the applicant must submit a copy of his/her DD 214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty with the Employment Application.  The Director of Personnel may, in his discretion, accept alternate documentation.

CITY RESIDENTS PREFERENCE POINTS: City residents who pass an examination for a position in the classified service and do not receive any other preference will receive a five (5) point preference on a scale of 100 points on the exam. An additional one (1) point shall be added to the passing score of City residents who receive any other preference on a scale of 100 points.  City residents must have resided in the City for at least one (1) year at the time of filing their application to be eligible for the preference points. 

Employees assigned to St. Louis Lambert International Airport may be eligible for commuting allowance of $180.00 bi-weekly.  A ten year character investigation will be conducted in accordance with FAA regulations for positions with the Airport Authority.
