For the most up-to-date cooling center information or county cooling centers, please call 2-1-1 or see the regional cooling center list.

During periods of extreme heat, we'll declare a heat emergency and open community centers as cooling centers. Please check on your neighbors and the elderly to make sure they're okay. Learn more about heat advisory definitions.

Important Heat Advisory Terms

Heat Wave: Three or more days of temperatures above 90 degrees Fahrenheit.

Extreme Heat Watch (formerly Excessive Heat Watch): Issued when conditions are favorable for heading into Extreme Heat Warning criteria within 24–72 hours:

  • Daytime Heat Index (HI) expected to meet or exceed “Warning” levels
  • Overnight lows of 80°F or higher, which hinder heat recovery

Extreme Heat Warning (formerly Excessive Heat Warning): Triggered under these local criteria:

  • HI around 110°F for at least two days, or
  • HI around 105°F for four consecutive days
