2023 Older Americans Month
Recognizing the countless contributions that older adults make to our community
This article is 2 years old. It was published on May 2, 2023.
The year 2023 marks the 60th anniversary of Older Americans Month. Each year in May our nation commemorates Older Americans Month to encourage and recognize the myriad contributions that older adults make for the betterment of our communities and our world. Their time, experience, and talents enrich the lives of those around them.
This year's theme is Aging Unbound which offers an opportunity to explore diverse aging experiences and focus on promoting flexible thinking about aging -- and how we all benefit when older adults remain engaged, independent, and included.
The Missouri Department of Health & Senior Services is challenging everyone to change the narrative on aging. This year's theme focuses on how older adults can age in their communities, living independently for as long as possible, and participating in ways they choose. Here are some ways we can all participate in Aging Unbound:
- Embrace the opportunity to change.
- Explore the rewards of growing older.
- Stay engaged in your community. Volunteer.
- Form relationships.
Diverse communities are strong communities. Ensuring that older adults remain involved and included in our communities for as long as possible benefits everyone.
