February 14-15, 2021, marks the 257th anniversary of the founding of the City of St. Louis, Missouri.
Pierre Laclede was a successful merchant and was granted rights to set up a trading post in this area along the Mississippi River. In 1763 he led an expedition to set up a fur-trading post. Laclede was accompanied on the trip by his young stepson, Auguste Chouteau. Together, in February 1764 the site for the trading post was selected and the settlement of St. Louis was founded.
