Description:
This statue was dedicated in 1876 concurrently with the official dedication of Forest Park, and thus was the first statue to be installed in the park.Bates was a lawyer and rose to the position of Attorney General in President Lincoln's Cabinet from 1961-1964. He was also a prominent Missouri politician.
