Since 1985, Public Service Recognition Week has been celebrated the first week of May (beginning on the first Sunday of the month) to honor the men and women who serve our nation as federal, state, county and local goverment employees.

Since the founding of our country, public employees have worked to ensure that our government is the best in the world. Americans are served every single day by public servants, and it is the work they do that keeps our nation working   Many public servants , including military personnel, police officers, firefighters, embassy employees, and others, risk their lives each day in service to the people of the United States and around the world. Day in and day out public servants provide the diverse services demanded by the American people of their government with efficiency and integrity.

Let us all take time during Public Service Recognition Week to recognize the accomplishments and contributions of government employees at all levels -- federal, state, county and city.
