Before/After Tax Election
It is again time for City employees to make their Before/After Tax election.
This article is 14 years old. It was published on May 1, 2011.
Employees must choose whether to have medical and dental deductions made before or after taxes. Deducting premiums before taxes lowers your total taxable income and reduces the income taxes you have to pay. Deducting premiums after taxes means that all taxes, including Social Security, are based on your full income.
Information was distributed with the paychecks on April 29. The election form must be returned to the Department of Personnel, Employee Benefits, 1114 Market, Suite 900, no later than 5 p.m. Friday, May 20, 2011.
You do not need to complete an election form if you wish to continue your current election. Any changes in your election will be effective June 19, 2011.
Please feel free to call the Employee Benefits Section at (314) 622-3200 if you have any questions.
