Health Department partners with O'Fallon Recreation Complex for National Night Out event.

In celebration of National Night Out on Tuesday, August 5th, the City of St. Louis Department of Health and O'Fallon Park Recreation Complex co-hosted a 'Night Out with Jump N2 Shape.' This activity incorporated physical activity and healthy eating as a fun way to encourage City residents to improve their health. Although National Night Out celebrations are usually for a particular neighborhood this event was free and open to the general public. More than 150 adults and 100 children attended and were able to swim, enjoy healthy food, and get a variety of health information and resources.

 

 

As part of the festivities, participants were also encouraged to join our region-wide fitness and weight-loss challenge, JUMP N2 Shape. This program is also free and 

offers participants access to nutrition and health information, fitness activities, and an on-line, individual tracking mechanism that records food intake, physical activity, weight loss and more. Visit www.jumpn2shape.com for more information and to sign-up.

 

This year marked the 31st celebration of the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) National Night Out, an evening what began as "American's Night Out Against Crime" in 1984. Organizers developed the effort to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships, neighborhood camaraderie, and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. National Night Out is typically celebrated on the first Tuesday of August.


NATW is a non-profit organization dedicated to the development and promotion of various crime prevention programs including neighborhood watch groups, law enforcement agencies, state and regional crime prevention associations, businesses, civic groups, and individuals, devoted to safer communities. The nation's premiere crime prevention network works with law enforcement officials and civilian leaders to keep crime watch volunteers informed, interested, involved and motivated. Since 1981, NATW continues to serve thousands of members across the nation.
