Mickey McTague Remembered

The funeral for long-time City Hall employee and boulevardier Marshall "Mickey" McTague was held on Friday, Dec. 30 at St. Gabriel the Archangel Church in the St. Louis Hills neighborhood.  Here's what was written about Mickey in the Celebration of Life program:

Mickey McTague met his destiny on Dec. 19, 2011 at the age of 72 in St. Louis, MO.  He was born to Margaret Katherine McTague and Marshall Edward McTague, Sr., raised a devout Catholic, and graduated from St. Mary's High School.

Mickey and his father were both cited in A Tribute to the McTague Family, in Resolution Number 132, by the St. Louis Board of Aldermen.  In the resolution, Mickey was recognized for his forty years of service in eight various City departments, for coordinating the 1970 election of the first African-American to win a city-wide office, and for laying the groundwork for streets named in honor of comedian Redd Foxx and James "Cool Papa" Bell.

Mickey wrote many scripts for comedian Bob Hope and contributed work for Senator Tom Eagleton, Hubert Humphrey and many others in public and private sector including radio and television personalities.  In 2006 he was featured in a St. Louis documentary At Large with Mickey McTague and he was prominently featured in another documentary, Gaslight Square:  The Legend Lives On.

He is survived by his sister Marianne and Alex Handlan III; sister Kathleen and Martin Giorgi; brother Thomas Patrick McTague; Michael and Madeline McTague; sister Margaret Mary McTague and Joe Slay; nephews Alex, Thomas, & Michael Handlan; nephew Martin and Debbie Giorgia and Dominic; nephew Ryan McTague; nephew Matt and Kim McTague and Evelyn; nephew Michael Jazz Richardson; niece Ellen Handlan, Chris York and Michael; niece Karie Alstaugh and Bella; niece Emma Alstaugh and Gabriel; niece Christine and Carlton Williams and Nia & Martino; niece Kelly Richardson; niece Katie and Ricky Andrews and Danny, Jordan, & Chloe; Alexis Howard; dear friends and countless others.  The McTague family extends their appreciation for the heartfelt condolences, acts of kindness, and to those present today.
