STLFD Battalion Chief Tapped for National Fire Protection Association
Battalion Fire Chief Derrick Phillips elected as Director of the Education Section for the NFPA

The St. Louis Fire Department has announced that Battalion Fire Chief Derrick Phillips was elected as Director of the Education Section for the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). Chief Phillips currently serves as the Chief Instructor of the STLFD Training Academy and Commander of the Office of Homeland Security.
Chief Phillips was elected due to his extensive work in the field of Fire Prevention, including previous assignments as the Department's Public Education Officer and Chief Fire Investigator. the NFPA's Executive Board voted in his favor due to his impressive resume in the Fire Service, and from his work with the NFPA's Urban Fire & Life Safety Task Force.
As the Director of Education, Chief Phillips, through information dissemination, education, and communication will:
- Facilitate the reduction of fire/burn deaths and injuries;
- Facilitate the reduction of fire losses to property;
- Promote cooperation among private enterprise, non-profit organizations, associations, and government agencies with an interest in fire and life safety education at the national, state, and local levels; and
- Provide for community education nationwide.
