Sustainability Monarch Outreach Internship
One unpaid internship to help conduct urban monarch conservation outreach.
SEEKING
An intern to assist the City of St. Louis Urban Monarch Conservation team conduct outreach in conjunction with Milkweeds for Monarchs: The St. Louis Butterfly Project.
INTERNSHIP DUTIES
Mayor Slay launched Milkweeds for Monarchs: The St. Louis Butterfly Project to foster the connection between people and urban natural resources where they live, work, learn and play. Milkweeds for Monarchs is part of the City of St. Louis Urban Vitality &Ecology Initiative, and is an effort that advances objectives in the City of St. Louis Sustainability Plan.
- Communications - Intern will provide support for Milkweeds for Monarchs: The St. Louis Butterfly Project communication and reporting efforts, such as by using social media and other communications strategies to describe project activities.
- Outreach - Intern will conduct community outreach efforts through tabling at events and presenting at various public events.
TERM
The internship is unpaid and must commence no later than May 16, 2016. Some of the work will be in the office, but much of the work will be at locations where community events are held in the City of St. Louis. Some nights and many weekends will be required. The intern will be supervised by Elizabeth Ward, the City's Monarch Assistant.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Experience with Horticulture, Botany, Environmental Science or Urban Ecology
- Working knowledge of natural resource systems and terminology
- Strong written and verbal skills
- Skilled at interacting with people of all ages and backgrounds
- Comfortable with public speaking
