Police Districts
Summary
The proposed bill directs the Division of Police to increase the number of Police Districts from six to nine as shown on the map in Exhibit A to the bill. Each district will be required to have a primary office or headquarters. The bill directs the Police Commissioner to appropriate resources equally amongst the nine districts to the extent the Commissioner deems reasonable and appropriate in light of changing community and law enforcement needs. The bill requires the forgoing changes to be in place within one-hundred and eighty days following the effective date.
