Built in 1917, Marquette Center is home the largest outdoor pool in the city of St. Louis.   The center has a gymnasium, boxing room, and several rooms capable of conducting different activities.  Marquette park is home to a playground and large soccer fields.

Programs

City Rec All-Starz Dance Program Ages 6 to 17 | females and males | Mon, Wed

Dance class geared toward discipline: Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Contemporary Praise, Majorette/ Drill/Pom. Ms. Ovaloretta Harris is back with a new dance program for this new generation. Her previous teachings with the City Recreation division spans back to 1980 when she was in high school volunteering her skills to develop her choreography in dance. Ms Rita or as the dance community acknowledges her as ?Mama Rita? has worked off and on for the Recreation Division for over 20+ years. Mama Rita is a former professional dancer, choreographer, a licensed teacher/educator and active community activist for our youths for over 25 years. She has taught, mentored, trained countless dancers from St. Louis to California. Dancers ages 5 to adult have been under her wings of teaching and they all still come to her for advice, to dance or assist her in teaching. Countless dancers in turn have brought their kids, nieces, nephews, cousins and grand kids to be trained and taught by her. Ovaloretta has been trained, mentored and danced with some of the best in the dance industry, most notably Debbie Allen, Richard Martin, Ray Parks (Godfather), Pelige Wren, Vivian Watts and countless others. Her dance credits include: Hammer, BBD, LSG, After 7, Usher, Chris Brown, Janet Jackson,The Hines Brothers, Sammy Davis Jr etc.. Mama Rita?s City Rec dance teams The SHOWSTOPPERS (92-98) and the City Rec Allstarz (2012-present) have been winning competitions and representing the recreation division for years. These kids have been to Disney World, the Apollo, danced on television, the Muny, Six Flags and more.

COCA - Music Matters Ages 7 to 18 | females and males | Wed

The City of St. Louis Recreation in partnership with the Center of Creative Arts (COCA) is pleased to offer...Music Matters. Students will work on vocal technique and song delivery in their group singing class. They will work on articulation, expression, posture and breath support as they learn to work as part of a group. This class is led by Mr. Kevin Mansco. Kevin has a bachelor?s degree from the University of Missouri-Rolla. He was a continuous Vocal Music substitute at Beaumont High School from 1998 -2001 where he was also responsible for the Concert Choir. In 2000, the Choir he teaches and leads was awarded the High School Choral/Gospel Choir of the year at the annual KIRL competition. He is currently a vocal music teacher at Soldan International Studies High School. He has been teaching after school classes and summer camps with COCA since 1999. Introductory tennis skills will be provided. Children will have the opportunity to learn skills through exercises, drills, activities, and matches/games.

This is an educational and activity driven enrichment program. Youth will learn some basic counting, writing and social skills through formal games and hands on activities.

This program is designed to teach youth all of the basic skills to be prepared for athletic competition at their level of basketball.

Youth Flag Football Ages 8 to 13 | females and males | Wed, Fri

The Youth Flag Football Program is based out of Marquette Recreation Center and Marquette Park. It is designed to promote age-appropriate play, skills and fundamentals and fun. Emphasis is placed on basic football skill development such as passing, catching, running wide receiver routes and flag pulling. Coaches provide a fun, safe and developmentally appropriate football environment for the kids. Players will learn the rules of the game and valuable skills to build a solid foundation for the game with the focus on improving each player?s football skills, having fun, teamwork, good sportsmanship and developing an appreciation for the game. The program is an "open play" format, meaning the players together at the beginning of the session and split them up into age specific teams. After each player has been designated a team, we will then have teams play another team in their age group.
