Death of Female Detainee in Division of Corrections Custody

A female in the custody of the Division of Corrections was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced deceased on Saturday, January 31, 2026.

The incident is currently being investigated by the Force Investigation Unit of the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.

The Division of Corrections recognizes the profound seriousness of any death occurring while in custody and offers its deepest sympathies to the individual’s family and loved ones during this difficult time. The safety, care, and well-being of those in our custody remain a fundamental priority. The Division is conducting a comprehensive review and is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
