Many St. Louisans – neighborhood leaders, business people, elected officials, City employees and concerned individuals -- have already signed up for and receive free emergency messages via text message and email from the Department of Public Safety (DPS) City of St. Louis Emergency Management Agency (CEMA) in times of emergency situations. Isn’t it time you took advantage of this free service?

Public Safety Director Eddie Roth and CEMA Commissioner Gary Christmann are constantly looking to improve policy and procedures to ensure that residents, businesses and employees are safe during any emergency situation that could occur in the City of St. Louis. One of the latest technological tools they have found to be of value in relaying information in times of an emergency is Nixle.

Nixle is a relatively new community message service that is in use by more than 700 municipalities nationwide to keep individuals up to date about neighborhood-level information. Information provided to Nixle is secure and will not be shared.

The service is free*, easy to use and there is no installation or training required. Simply log onto www.nixle.com and click on “Sign Up Now.” Follow the prompts to let us know how and what information you wish to receive from this service.

Nixle alerts allow DPS/CEMA to send out messages in a precise, geographically-targeted manner depending on need. When the situation warrants it, Nixle messages can be directed to people in specific neighborhoods – or City-wide.

Why should you sign up for Nixle?

  • You need to be informed in case of an emergency.
  • You want to receive information that is accurate, that you can trust.
  • You need to know if there is an emergency in your neighborhood.
  • If you are a business owner, you want to ensure a safe environment for your employees and customers.
  • DPS/CEMA will only use Nixle in case of an emergency, to provide you with vital information and instructions on how to remain safe in the situation.

We encourage you to join your neighbors and sign up for Nixle today!

Please call Gary Christmann at (314) 622-3501 ext. 1 with any questions.
