Lois Laster
Resident Interview for 2733 Howard Street
Lois moved from Peoria to St. Louis with her mother and sister when she was very young. She grew up going back and forth between households – her mother’s residence in Carr Square Village and her godparents’ home on Howard Street in the JeffVanderLou neighborhood. Lois was one of the first African-American students to integrate at St. Leo’s in St. Louis Place and she attended high school at Rosati-Kain. She shares a vibrant picture of the tight-knit community where she felt loved, supported and nurtured.
