TITLE: Security Guard

REPORTS TO:  Garage Manager
FLSA STATUS: Full-Time, Non-Exempt
SHIFT: Monday - Friday, 10 pm - 6 am

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Under general supervision, performs a variety of duties to ensure the security of garage facility. 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Qualifications include High School Diploma or GED equivalent certification. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing for the purpose of public interaction and report writing. Must possess a high level of interpersonal skill and the ability to deal with a variety of individuals. Good problem solving skills. The ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely fashion. Ability to perform essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. Friendly and professional demeanor. Ability to handle typical and crisis situations efficiently and effectively in the absence of the garage manager. Must be able to communicate effectively and prepare written reports and logs in neat, legible handwriting; may require computer skills. Must be able to read and understand all operating procedures and instructions. Must be able to handle pressure of working with high volume general public. Accurate and attentive to details. Must possess a driver's license, have an acceptable driving record and be insurable.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Conduct hourly rounds on foot to ensure that the facility is safe. Observe and report suspicious activities and or unusual activity to Garage manager and building management. Writes detailed narrative reports and maintain daily activity reports. Enforces rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and respond to emergency situations requiring security assistance. Informs and warns violators of rule infractions, such as loitering. Remains alert for the presence of unauthorized persons and/or security code violators; notifies the police in any instance involving crime, disturbance or danger. Other duties as may be assigned by supervisor or Treasurer's Office management.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

Stand or walk constantly (for up to an entire shift) on various surfaces (tile, concrete, carpet), climb stairs, ramps, or ladders occasionally during shift. Occasionally bend/twist at waist/knees/neck to perform various duties. Run as needed. Constant use of both hands and arms in reaching/handling/grasping while using phone, notepad, writing reports, and other administrative tasks. Constant use of eyes (correctable vision to normal level required) to observe, read, interact with public and co-workers; includes hand/eye coordination. Work in various environments including adverse outdoor conditions such as cold, rain or heat. Work involves moderate exposure to extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke and loud noises.
