City and County economic development agencies held their first joint conference on regional economic development on June 14.

The conference brought business leaders together to hear from economic development experts from Kansas City, Nashville, and Oklahoma City, who discussed the importance of a regional approach to be competitive in the global economy and gave examples of how regional collaboration and partnerships brought jobs, tax revenues, and growth to their cities.

Mayor Francis G. Slay and St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley both welcomed the audience and gave their support of the conference.  Panel moderators were the heads of economic development for both governments - St. Louis Development Corporation Executive Director Rodney Crim and St. Louis County Economic Council President/CEO Denny Coleman.

Held at the Missouri Botanical Garden, the half-day conference was well attended by more than 300 officials and business leaders from the region.  Similar conferences may be held in the future.
