The St. Louis Fire Department has provided equipment, training and initial program management for the development of a Public Access Defibrillation Program covering 75 St. Louis Public School buildings.

The training of more than 300 staff included coaches, Physical Education teachers, School Nurses and School Safety Officers in a series of three hour classes. Instruction was carried out by members of the St. Louis Fire Department following the American Heart Association curriculum.

The final training class was held on Friday, Sept. 23, 2011. Pictured below from left: Dr. Kelvin Adams, Superintendent of the St. Louis Public Schools is presented with an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) by Fire Chief Dennis Jenkerson.

The program will provide immediate assistance to any one of the more than 20,000 students, teachers, administrators and visitors to the City's Public Schools, in the unfortunate event of cardiac arrest.
