The Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety announced last month a new campaign to reinforce the importance of driving sober and the legal consequences of not taking that advice.
According to the latest statistics, impaired driving contributes to about 30 percent of all Missouri traffic fatalities. In 2010, 217 people were killed and 897 were seriously injured in crashes involving an impaired driver. Last year, during the holiday season between Thanksgiving and Christmas, 69 people died in Missouri traffic accidents (20 involved impaired driving) and 4,602 suffered injuries (with 324 involving impaired driving).
The Coalition wants to remind drivers of the dangers of driving impaired and encourages drivers not to take the risk of getting behind the wheel after drinking or when impaired.
