On your way into work on Friday, Feb. 11 you will have the opportunity to help Heat-Up St. Louis help some of our neighbors who are having trouble paying their heating bills this winter. The annual "Rise & Shine for HEAT" campaign will take place at participating St. Louis area Hardee's restaurants from 6 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Feb. 11. When you order either an Egg Biscuit sandwich or a Sausage & Egg Biscuit sandwich, the proceeds will go to Heat-Up St. Louis to assist low-income residents with their heating bills.
Those served by Heat-Up St. Louis often have residences and jobs, but their incomes are so low that they cannot afford to pay for food, medications and high monthly utility bills. They have to make choices. Some believe they can endure excessive cold. Others may try to stay warm using unsafe heating methods. St. Louis Fire Chief Dennis Jenkerson has warned that winter months have the highest incidents of home and apartment fires, often due to unsafe space heaters. Potentially life-threatening situations can be avoided through utility bill assistance and community education programs.
Since 2001, the volunteers, non-profit agencies, local governments and corporate supporters that make up Heat-Up St. Louis have assisted more than 190,000 people in 17 Missouri and Illinois counties in the St. Louis region through public education, heating grants, and referrals through the resource help hotline at (314) 241-7668.
