September is National Hunger Action Month
Take the Hunger Challenge: Spend just $29 for a week's worth of food -- the average MO SNAP (food stamp allotment).
This article is 14 years old. It was published on September 1, 2011.
Food Outreach is inviting City employees to get involved this month during National Hunger Action Month.
Here are some suggestions:
- donate canned goods such as canned tuna, chicken, turkey or salmon, green beans, peaches, corn, mixed vegetables, pineapple chunks or Mandarin oranges;
- donate / raise funds ($1 would equal 1 canned good); or
- participate in the Hunger Challenge. Would you be able to eat nutritiously on $29 a week? That's the average Missouri SNAP (food stamp allotment). Pick any seven days this September and take the challenge.
Food Outreach's goal is to collect 3,000 cans to help maintain its food supply for the upcoming year. Established in 1988, Food Outreach continues to be the only nonprofit organization in the greater St. Louis area whose focus is to provide comprehensive nutritional support to low-income individuals of all ages battling either cancer or HIV/AIDS.
